Royal Savoy in Madeira – Review

To begin with, Madeira is a beautiful volcanic island jutting out of the Atlantic ocean from a mountain range. Along the road through Madeira, there are large villages, sleepy hamlets encased in an abundance of wild flowers of every color you can think such as english roses, asiatic orchids and with the abundance of fruits from all continents, makes Madeira a natural botanical garden. The beautiful beaches and clear blue to green ocean water make this floating garden a true paradise, which is only 35 miles long and 13 miles wide.

By staying at the Royal Savoy in Madeira, not only will you have access to the beauty of the island, you will also have access to the other island of Porto Santo or the uninhabited islands of Desertas or Selvagens. If that is not enough to make you want to jump on the first plane and fly, fast as you can to this paradise island, maybe the fact that they have been in business since the early 1900’s. From humble beginnings as a family owned business, the “Royal Hotel” grew by leaps and bounds and by 1914 it was known as the Hotel Savoy and boasted an increasing demand for their unique atmosphere and amazing facilities.

Almost a century after its first conception, The Royal Savoy opened in 2002 with 162 apartments. Out of the 162 apartments, 101 are Studio’s, 41 are one-bedroom units and 20 are two-bedroom suites. The Studio Apartments have an internal space of 38m2 with lots of wardrobe space, a kitchenette, a twin bedroom, a lounge area with a balcony facing the ocean. The One-bedroom apartments have an internal space of 80m2 and have a master bedroom suite with a walk-in closet, complete kitchen, a balcony facing the ocean, cable TV, a lounge area that comes equipped with a sofa bed and full size shower room, in case you have overnight guest.

The two-bedroom Royal Savoy apartments have an internal space of 125m2 and can sleep up to six persons. This one is ideal for the family as they have two full size bathrooms, the dining area and lounge are separate and have a generously stocked kitchen and lounge with a beautiful, ocean facing balcony. The two-bedroom, lock-off apartments are luxury apartments that consist of two bedrooms en-suite with separate entrances and dividing doors between both suites. This lock-off enables the apartment to become one two bedroom apartment or a one-bedroom suite with a lock-off bedroom. They have two full bathrooms with walk-in closets and both en-suite, a lounge area and ocean facing balcony.

The amenities are considerable for this amazing five star resort and include on-site: Indoor swimming pool, private beach, child care, children’s swimming pool, full service health spa, meeting rooms, laundry rooms, steam room, internet access (wireless), panoramic elevator, concierge service, library, outdoors swimming pool, lounge, poolside bar, wedding services, medical services, free parking, hair salon, bellhop and newspaper. Off-site: Scuba diving, snorkeling, golf, hiking/biking trails, tennis, the beach, horseback riding, and fishing.

Another Great Holiday at Marriott’s Marbella Beach Resort!

This is the second year running that we have stayed at the Marriott's Marbella Beach Resort, and it was actually better the second time around than the first. Perhaps this was to do with knowing the complex a little better, or the fact that the summer in the UK was just so wet and dreadful either way, it was the perfect summer holiday, and just what my family and myself needed!

One of the best things about the Marriott's Marbella, is the friendliness of the staff that work there, and the service that they provide. This is particularly important when first arriving, the flight from the UK itself is short and we pre booked a private chauffeur to bring us to the resort. The staff are friendly and efficient on the desk though, and quickly sorted us out. This friendliness was maintained throughout our stay there, and was in itself a real highlight.

Once we had checked in, we could relax into the holiday and enjoy all the facilities that the resort had to offer. There really is something for everyone there, and our kids certainly enjoyed the new dedicated kids pool areas with slides, and the kids activity centre and playground. At the same time, there were other areas which were definitely more suited to just couples holidaying, and I have to admit to visiting these quiet areas once in a while myself! There was also a gym that I used once a day, and it had everything I needed for a holiday workout, although serious gym goers will obviously find it limited. (Hey, it’s a holiday. Relax. Chill!).

We had a large two bedroom apartment which can sleep up to 6 people however we noticed the Marriott’s Marbella also had one bedroom and three bedroom apartments available.
The complex had more than enough things to do to keep the family entertained for the day, and for me personally, this also included Wifi access. It didn't have the strongest signal in certain places, but it was easy to find somewhere it was strong enough to catch up on emails or check in on the news a couple of times a day. Adequate enough, but not great if wanting to watch something over YouTube. Streaming digital radio channels was just fine though.

We were staying in what is known at the resort as Gold Holiday season although we met other couples and families at the resort who had slightly different timeshare ownership known as silver, gold and the much sought after platinum period. We picked up a guide at the resort showing us which season applied to each period for future use.

Of course, nowhere is perfect, and if the Marriott's does have a downside, it is in the prices that they charge in the restaurants. Whilst it is ok for the occasional meal, it is far cheaper to eat in one of the restaurants a little down the road for sometimes half the price, and there are a couple of supermarkets to stock up in just a little distance away. We ended up using a combination of all three options, eating at the Marriott restaurants on nights we couldn't be bothered to leave the complex, and wandering further afield when we had more energy or fancied a stroll. It actually suited us nicely, and it was good to have all the options to choose from.

All in all, it is possibly one of the best holidays that we have had, and we are definitely going back there next year. I haven't tried any of the other Marriott places in the Costa del Sol or Spain in general, but if they are anything similar to this one, we might also try those in the years ahead.

After reading this resort review you are probably now asking the question how do I buy a Marriotts Marbella timeshare resale.
